"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. " John 14:27
Alright, Christian Sister...do you ever feel a total lack of peace? Overwhelmed? Stressed out? Worried? This time of the year can be chaotic. We go back to our daily grind with a bag full of resolutions. We can pressure ourselves to do more, and be more, and have it all together. We also feel the pressure of others: friends, family, the culture. We all have those moments, maybe even seasons, but God doesn't want us to stay in the pit of anxiety.
When someone starts their relationship with Christ, He gives her His everlasting, eternal peace. This kind of peace resides deep in our soul. It isn't a magic spell that can calm the storm around us. Rather, it calms the sea of your heart. It helps us weather the storm without being wrecked. It's our job to remember that we have peace and to stay connected to this gift. To seek peace and, as far as it is up to us, live in peace with those around us.
We can't be peaceful in our power. Only the power of the Holy Spirit will enable us. In the midst of an overwhelming situation, in stressful times, when worry creeps up, it's up to us to capture the thoughts of chaos in our minds and replace them with God's peace.
So, meditate on scriptures about peace to remember, pray to reconnect to the peace Christ gave you, and rejoice in your soul. Because while the world around you might be storming hard, the One who loves you best gives you smooth sailing through His peace and the power to hold on to it.
